IRAFM Workshop with the Participation of an International Expert
On 22 July 2026, the Institute for Research and Applications of Fuzzy Modeling (IRAFM) at the University of Ostrava hosted a workshop of the Research Objective 4.2 team within the project Biography of Fake News with a Touch of AI: A Risk Phenomenon through the Prism of Modern Human Sciences. The workshop focused primarily on quantifiers, squares of opposition, and their application in disinformation research. It brought together experts not only from the Research Objective 4.2 team, but also from other project research teams based at IRAFM.
A key participant in the workshop was the international expert Associate Professor Agnès Rico from Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, a member institution of Université de Lyon. She travelled to Ostrava to present the latest findings in the field of classical and modern squares of opposition. In her keynote lecture, she focused on the differences between their classical and modern interpretations, duality relations, and the generalisation of squares into more complex structures, such as hexagons and cubes of opposition. She also discussed graded variants of these structures, which make it possible to model fuzzy phenomena involving different degrees of possibility and certainty. Her participation provided an important international perspective on the topics under investigation and created opportunities for an expert exchange of knowledge and the development of further cooperation.
Further presentations were delivered by Associate Professor Michal Holčapek, who addressed relations of opposition for fuzzy quantifiers based on fuzzy measures, and Associate Professor Antonín Dvořák, who summarised the results of research into fuzzy quantifiers defined over fuzzy universes.
The workshop also included expert consultations focusing on the potential application of the presented methods in the modelling and analysis of disinformation messages. The knowledge gained will be used in the further implementation of the project, particularly in its research activities and in the preparation of publication outputs under Key Activity 2.
During the following days of Agnès Rico’s stay at the University of Ostrava, the workshop was followed by further expert activities related to the implementation of the project.
